- Discussions on the idea of running a short online course in medieval palaeography (deciphering handwriting), jointly with the Explore Lifelong Learning project are continuing. It would be in an early evening slot over 5 weeks in September or October, tutored by an experienced archivist. There will be no charge to SANT members, but again this can only happen if enough people want to join. We will keep you up to date.
- We are planning a further African Lives in the North East walk, to take place on 21 September 2024 at 10.30. Follow this link for the booking form, closing date 11 Sept.

- As well as the talks listed on the Events pages, Newcastle Castle has a range of tours, including walking tours, evening castle tours, and Kids’ Castle Adventures Tours. Various dates and prices, see their website.
- Kielder Village, Northumberland: Thomas Sharp and a ‘harbinger of a rural revolution’? is a blog on the Municipal Dreams website, interesting so long as you can fight your way past the numerous advertisements.
- Our librarian Mike Barke has put together a new list of acquisitions from January last year to this month, including details of where they came from. Thanks to all the donors.
Deaths
- Jenny Vaughan, stalwart of the Northumberland Archaeological Group (NAG) sadly died on 28 March.She was always heavily involved with NAG events and its Committee, and a regular digger on most of its projects. She was also a great advocate for archaeology in general, and latterly was heavily involved with research being undertaken by other local groups in Coquetdale and the Till Valley.
